Legal Disclaimer
Because this product is used by lawyers, in litigation, holding privileged material, it is worth being unusually plain about what it is and what it is not.
LITICUS is not a law firm
LITICUS Legal Intelligence is a technology and analytics division of Alpha Source Technologies Inc.. It is not a law firm, does not employ lawyers to act for clients, and is not licensed to practise law in any jurisdiction. Nothing provided through the Matter Vault — the storage, the access log, any certificate, any analysis or report — constitutes legal advice, and none of it should be relied on as such.
No attorney-client relationship
Using the vault, corresponding with us, or receiving output from any LITICUS tool does not create an attorney-client relationship between you (or your client) and Alpha Source Technologies Inc. or any of its personnel. Your attorney-client relationship is with the law firm that invited you to this vault.
Privilege and confidentiality are your firm's to protect
The vault is designed to help preserve privilege: material is encrypted, access is restricted to people an administrator has named, and every access is logged. But the decisions that actually protect privilege — who is granted access to which matter, what is uploaded, what is shared with whom — are made by your firm, not by us. We make no representation that use of the vault preserves privilege or work-product protection in any particular jurisdiction or circumstance.
Storage, not review
The vault stores and transmits what is placed in it. Unless a firm has authorised analysis of a matter, it does not read documents at all; and even then it does not review them for completeness, accuracy, authenticity, relevance or responsiveness, and it does not check whether a file should have been uploaded at all. The presence of a file in the vault says nothing about its admissibility, its provenance or its truth.
The access log and certificates are records, not opinions
The access log records the events the vault observed. A certificate of destruction records that a matter's encryption key was discarded and what the matter contained at that moment. These are technical records produced automatically. We do not certify, and cannot know, what any file contained beyond its name, size and fingerprint, and we express no view on the legal effect of any entry.
Analytical outputs
Where LITICUS tools produce analysis — timelines, actor maps, evidence summaries, drafts — those outputs are aids to a lawyer's judgment, produced from the material supplied. They may be incomplete or wrong. They must be verified against the underlying sources by a qualified professional before any reliance, and they are not a substitute for that professional's own review. We make no representation about their admissibility as evidence or their acceptance by any court or tribunal.
Security
We take security seriously and describe our measures honestly, but no system is impregnable. We do not warrant that the vault is free of vulnerabilities, and the measures described elsewhere on this site are a description of design, not a guarantee of outcome.
